Your employee’s morale and job satisfaction is checked by customers assessing your organisational behaviour with every communication they encounter within your business/non-profit enterprise. High morale offers many advantages over low morale, from boosting profits and owning individual responsibility where it counts. How can you spot it, deal with it and seal it for customer approval?

Stop low morale in its tracks

Low morale can be caused by events occurring at home or in the workplace. It can lead to a lack of confidence, mixing feelings and emotions, which may bring dissatisfaction in work and life, in general.

A reduction in a company morale may be perceived by:

  • Substantial absences from work
  • Higher than average number of accidents in the workplace
  • Ever increasing job turnover
  • A gradual or dramatic increase in complaints and grievances by employees
  • Disciplinary action may increase

Customers can quickly identify a business where individuals display low morale and a lack of job satisfaction. The missing smile, the couldn’t care less attitude and no interest in serving or completing a sale, can often mean that employees are caught in a trap where they dislike their work so much, but cannot afford to leave.

How high morale boosts profits

When high morale is present, there is an increase in job satisfaction across the employees and the management. Productivity will almost certainly be increased, which will show in higher turnover and improved profit levels.

Employees will feel a level of stability within the company and be more open in their communications with customers and management, with the sole aim of helping everyone else to benefit.

Management will be pleased with their employee’s willingness to accept responsibility in the workplace. This will often show as individuals find solutions to problems which impact on the bottom line.

Job satisfaction with individual responsibility

When employees and management feel they are being treated fairly, they will often go the extra mile, even without further pay, as recognition may be all that is required.

Where employees are allowed the opportunity to express their views, without immediate rejection, even if they are finally refused, they develop their bond within the organisation.

Management will see that they have a greater cooperation amongst employees who are more stable in their working environment. The loyalty of these employees will completely overshadow any business where morale is low and job satisfaction, dire.
