3 key principles for success

success

In today’s world, it is more important than ever to cut through the noise and stand out to be successful. Whether that is through building your own venture or having a more corporate career, the end game is to achieve what you define as your success. Here are three key steps to success.

This blog was written by Bookboon author, Volker Ballueder.

Serendipity and success

Whilst you can plan success, and identify what you are doing, and how you are doing it, there is always a pinch of luck involved to be really successful. Whether that is by meeting the right mentor or through being at the right place at the right time, in the end, there are things you cannot plan. Not everyone I interviewed set out to be successful, and of course, success is a very subjective matter.

Emotional Intelligence

Emotional intelligence (EQ), being self-aware and managing yourself and your emotions, is one of the key principles for success, personally or professionally. EQ is an underlying principle which helps to build and lead teams, to make sales, to build rapport, resolve conflict and to see the world through other people’s eyes. Thankfully Emotional Intelligence can be learned, and it leads to having a growth mindset. Having a growth mindset leads to the right approach dealing with failure, and learning from mistakes in a manner that leads to being successful.

Mindfulness

However, Emotional Intelligence and Success is just the start of success. There is also the hard work and with it comes productivity in terms of having habits and routines. Underlying productivity is key to success, a system you can trust. Whether that is to control your time, schedule time, or getting things done; or it might be to balance your life in order to feel happier? How do you manage your life-life balance? What is it that makes you more productive. And, on that topic, applying Emotional Intelligence and Mindfulness to your daily life and business, will lead to a more productive and therefore successful outcome in the long run. This is due to the above mentioned awareness of emotions within yourself and others, being able to take mental breaks and relax your brain, training it to deal with upcoming challenges. If you haven’t introduced mindfulness in your daily routine and your business, it is time to take first steps now.
