Tom A. Jelmert is Professor of Petroleum Engineering with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim. Until 1997 was also Adjunct Prof. of mathematics and physics at the Academy of The Royal Norwegian Air Force, Trondheim. He has been a research engineer with SINTEF, Trondheim.

Jelmert holds a BSc. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, Ind. He holds MS. and PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH),Trondheim. He has been a guest scientist with University of Tulsa, Tulsa, Ok., in the period 1989-90, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, Col., in the period 2000-2001, and with The University of Split, Croatia, three months in 2011. He served as a member of the editorial board of Journal of Petroleum Science and Technology during the period 1996-2002.

He has presented papers on: Well testing, Core Analysis, Stress-Sensitivity, Petroleum Production, and Ground Water Hydrology. He is interested in analytical and numerical models.
