Description

Effective communication is one of the key requirements in any working relationship. The two key components of effective communication are listening skills and talking skills. Both these skills require active participation, not passive observation.

When applying active listening, we listen with the intention of identifying possible needs and solutions. We need to listen to the meta-massage (the implied or un-said message) as much as we listen to what is being said.

We use reflection to check understanding and show that we are listening.

When we talk, we need to make sure that we say what we mean and mean what we say. We ask clarifying and explorative questions which will aid better understanding of the problem as well as possible solutions.
