Self-esteem is a concept that gets thrown around a lot without much explanation. In this talk we discuss what it is, and isn’t, and why it is something that we can take under control.

Self-esteem is an innate belief of ourselves based on internal evaluation of our values and worth. As it is internal, it is subjective and not easily challenged. It is not fixed, but rather is a feeling or belief that changes constantly through out the day, depending on our thoughts and perceived experiences. What we are saying to ourselves about ourselves flows over in the world and affects our behaviour, either positively or negatively. When we start viewing self-esteem as a feeling and not a rule, we can use that as information to understand our selves and the world around us.
