Locus of control refers to where we believe influence and control of our lives is taking place. Those with in external locus of control see the world as being inflicted upon them, that forces out of their control influence their behaviour, thoughts and loves. With this world view, we do not take responsibility for ourselves or our behaviour and spend our lives reacting to the world. Internal locus of control is when we consciously see our own roles in the world and what is within our control. We become responsive, curious and can take responsibility and thus regain our power.
