This is Part-II of the four-part e-book “Software Solutions to Problems in Basic Thermodynamics”

Part-II contains solved problems on following topics: Zeroth Law, Heat and Work, First Law of Thermodynamics for a closed system and for flow processes.

In this book, problems are solved using three popular software, viz. “Mathcad”, “Engineering Equation Solver (EES)” and “The Expert System on Thermodynamics (TEST)”. Some ‘free software’ are also explained.

An introductory chapter in Part-I gives a brief overview of the software used.

At the beginning of each chapter, a concise compilation of statements, definitions and formulas used in that chapter is given.

Comments are included generously in the codes so that the logic behind the solutions is clear.

  1. Work, Heat and I Law of Thermodynamics applied to Closed systems
    1. Formulas used
    2. Problems solved with EES
    3. Problems solved with The Expert System for Thermodynamics (TEST)
    4. References
  2. I Law of Thermodynamics applied to Flow Processes
    1. Formulas used
    2. Problems solved with EES
    3. Problems solved with The Expert System for Thermodynamics (TEST)
    4. References
This book is very good for all second/third year Mechanical Engineering students. The solutions for the various problems are excellent. The Mathcad software is used very efficiently and intelligently for solving the problems.
