Emotional intelligence and emotional competence are what moves teams from being dysfunctional to functional. Dysfunctional teams have members that are motivated by their own goals and wants. They are unaware of their behaviours impact, take things personally and do not take responsibility. A team that does not trust each other, communication breaks down and they serve themselves rather than working towards a goal. Functional teams are aware of their emotions and their impact, can self-regulate. They resolve conflict quickly as they seek power with the team rather than power to sabotage.
