Description

With its quirky title taken from what one of the mentors on The Voice Australia 2013 said to his mentee, this is an easy to read guide to overcoming the fear of ‘putting yourself out there’ to achieve your career goals. Sometimes due to anxiety or lack of confidence we get in our own way. We hesitate to be at the right place at the right time and this becomes a barrier to getting what we really want. With easy to do activities, relevant case studies, a tip summary at the end of each chapter and an action planner, you can become more proactive in moving ahead. This book will help you overcome various difficulties you may experience in taking the first steps to start the journey towards success in your chosen career direction.

About the Author

Jacky Dakin is an experienced psychologist, organisational development consultant, facilitator and executive coach. She is a regular guest presenter and keynote speaker at seminars and conferences. She runs her own organisational consulting business, coupled with a private practice in clinical and counselling psychology. She is also a principal of a consortium with professional colleagues.

She has a passion for helping people be the best they can whether personally or professionally. One of her greatest thrills is when she sees her clients turn a corner and start overcoming their own particular obstacles. They can then make positive changes which move them closer towards their own definition of success.

Jacky is active on several boards and committees, regularly mentors younger colleagues and volunteers for various organisations. She has co-authored a successful book “Short Poppies Can Grow: Confidence at work” and was formerly a regular columnist in the Advertiser Saturday Review section. She is a past finalist in the Telstra Business Woman of the Year.

Laura Taplin is a registered psychologist with a specialised interest in working with individuals, teams and organisations to help them to reach their full potential. She has gained valuable experience with one of South Australia’s premier organisational development and recruitment companies.

She makes full use of her strong understanding of positive psychology, personality, culture, work environment and team dynamics to offer practical strategies to her clients. She is also a skilled presenter and researcher.

Laura currently finds that the most enjoyable part of her work is providing career guidance to people, at whatever age or career stage.
